Anticipating that article about fiddling with your name to Google better, I long since fiddled with my name, although in fact it was to make it easier to remember. Still, you decide:

"Russ Smith" - 99,600 hits - my first appearance is #16, and that's a huge improvement on what it used to be. I also can't get any decent domain permutation of this registered. (There's at least one net professional named Russ Smith.)

"R. Francis Smith" - 688 hits - the first 33, at least, are all me. A spot check says nearly all of the rest probably are, too.

So... yeah.
